2nd - 6th October 2017 is Judaism Week at Corpus Christi.
We started the week by welcoming Iris Segall from the Bristol and West Progressive Jewish Congregation.
Iris led two assemblies in which she talked about the history of the Jewish faith, differences between the
Progressive and Orthodox Jews and read a prayer in Hebrew from the Old Testament. Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 also learnt a song in Hebrew which celebrates Shabbat or 'day of rest'.
Come and join us and find out what we have been doing on Friday at 9.am for our sharing assembly.
On the 6th of July Year 4 were given the honour of leading the school's first class Mass for many years.
The children helped to write the Mass, led the prayers and readings and answered some difficult questions
posed by Father Richard during his homily.
Thank you to our celebrant, Father Richard for leading us through the Mass and to all the parents who attended the service.
Some comments from the children:
"I really enjoyed the Mass because it was really peaceful." (Soraya)
"I liked it when Father Richard showed us his stole because it had our school logo on it."
"I liked the detailed homily from Father." (Sacha)
On the 30th March Year 6 led the whole school through the Stations of the Cross. Each Station was situated at a
different place around the school and was manned by two Year 6 pupils. They presented a pictorial image of the
station, read a bible reading and prayer and led a short reflection. Each class was divided into two groups which
visited each station in turn. The children showed great respect and thoughtfulness as they listened carefully to
the events of Jesus' journey to the cross.
Our new prayer garden was opened in term 5 for children to reflect, pray or just sit quietly. We have some beautifully decorated prayer pebbles made by the children, during the Easter holiday, which really enhance the use of this garden.
