SMSC and Healthy Schools

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSCE) is at the heart of everything we do at Corpus Christi. We follow the SEAL (Social and emotional aspects of learning) scheme of work. The topics we cover on a yearly basis are:

  • New Beginnings

  • Say No to Bullying

  • Going for Goals

  • Good to be Me

  • Relationships

  • Changes

There is a whole school approach towards behaviour and learning. Social, emotional and behavioural skills underlie almost every aspect of school, home and community life, including effective learning and getting on with other people. Where children have good skills in these areas, and are educated within an environment supportive to emotional health and well-being, they will be motivated to, and equipped to be effective learners, good friends and able to manage feelings and problems successfully.

In addition to the above, Collective Worship provides daily opportunities to enhance pupil’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and includes a weekly celebration assembly to reward and recognise a range of achievements both academic and social.

The health and well -being aspects of SMSCEE are covered through our science curriculum.

Promoting British Values

At Corpus Christi we are committed to promoting fundamental British values. We believe these are:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of the law
  • Individual liberty and mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

We will ensure students are able to develop their self knowledge, self- esteem and self confidence whilst ensuring they can distinguish right from wrong and to respect civil and criminal law of England.

Queen Elizabeth 90th Birthday

As part of our British values during this year, we celebrated with the whole school community we celebrated Wueen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday. It started with an assembly where we refreshed our memories as to the British Values, the children talking and agreeing followed by a wonderful celebration on her actual birthday. We thank Mrs O'Neill for the wonderful celebration cake which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
