The English leads of our DCET schools have come together to devise a new, improved, 'Shared Approach' to the teaching and learning of Writing. This new approach is being planned around high-quality children's texts, not only to inspire pupils to write purposefully, but to allow meaningful connections with the texts studied. Children will have opportunities to see and explore how text is printed within actual books along with enjoying and valuing the addition of illustrations. (You cannot beat holding an actual book in your hands!)
Teaching and learning will be enhanced with so many opportunities for rich discussion of language and vocabulary, as well as pupils being more excited, engaged and motivated to read and write more and more. The new format will have a main fiction and non-fiction writing outcome each term, but not only that, many other valuable writing opportunities throughout the learning journey can be accessed, allowing pupils to continually develop and hone their writing skills.
The planning of this exciting approach is well under way and we will start implementation in the coming months. To find out more about this exciting step forward in our English provision, please read the draft DCET Outline and Vision for the new approach, found below.
